Alessandra Ortiz

I came to SOUL this summer to further practice my organizing skills so that I can become a better leader for my community.

Born and raised in San Francisco to an immigrant Salvadoran family, Alessandra has been an active member at PODER/People Organizing to Demand Environmental & Economic Rights in San Francisco for the past four years, since she was 14 years old. She is spent the summer at PODER, practicing new organizing skills and helping to kick off a new economic justice campaign.

Ibtesam Salman

At SOUL Summer School, I have experienced the power of one.

Iby was born in Palestine and is an active member of the Palestinian Youth Network. She developed her skills in the international movement for Palestinian rights. This summer Iby is working with POWER/People Organized to Win Employment Rights in their Women Workers’ Project, in a new campaign of Latina immigrants fighting for their rights as domestic workers.

Arturo Tolenttino

When I think of SOUL students and staff I think, ‘A people with memory is a rebellious people’.

Arturo is originally from Michoacán, México. He is a member of Colectivo Tonantzín and el Centro Cultural de México in Santa Ana, California where he has organized with day laborers against police abuse and for immigrant rights. This summer Arturo worked with St. Peter’s Housing Committee in the Mission District of San Francisco, building the leadership of immigrant tenants.
